Michigan Library Advocacy Day 2024 Online Participation

If you can’t join us in person, we hope you will engage in any or all of the following online activities on Michigan Library Advocacy Day, April 16, 2024.

  • Post on Social Media. Your voice has power and we want you to leverage your network to support library advocacy on social media. See more below.
  • Call or Send a Letter/Email to Your Elected Officials. We have a phone script to use, and letter and email templates for you to customize and send to your elected officials.

Take Action!

Post on Social Media

Twitter is an important social media network in the advocacy world. Most elected officials will utilize Twitter to keep their constituents informed in real-time. In fact, most state elected officials often will manage their accounts themselves.  By following and engaging with your elected officials on Twitter, you will have one of the most direct ways to have your voice heard. Find your House Member and State Senator’s Twitter handle using our directory (available soon).

Don't know who your state legislators are? Click to find your State Representative and State Senator now.

Twitter thrives on being a social media platform that values short, concise, and to the point communication. The top three ways to engage with your legislators is by tagging them using @ and then their twitter handle in your tweets, retweeting their tweets with your own relevant commentary, and replying to their tweets.

We have pulled together sample tweets and tweet threads for our social media advocates to utilize during Michigan Library Advocacy Day. Each of these sample tweets is customizable to make it your own but touch on all of the important pieces of legislation we are advocating for (available soon).

Unlike any other social media platform, Twitter thrives on the use of hashtags to amplify current events and trending topics. During Michigan Library Advocacy Day, make sure to use our special hashtags so not only we can like and retweet your tweets – but others who are following along the day can engage with your posts as well! Make sure to use the hashtags #MLAoffice, #MILibraryAdvocate and #MILibraryAdvocacyDay2024 at the end of all your tweets about Library Advocacy Day.

Make sure to stay active during Library Advocacy Day and like, retweet, and reply to others' tweets. The more you engage with others, the more you will raise your profile and have your voice heard.
