Spring Institute 2018 Special Events
SI Gives Back
Continuing the tradition of supporting local youth-based programs, attendees of Spring Institute are invited to bring a donation for HQ, a drop-in center for youth ages 14 thru 24 who are experiencing unsafe or unstable housing. HQ was created to help young people find a place to rest, obtain resources and connections, and receive support thru professional skill building. HQ exists as a transformative space where everyone is included and diversity is celebrated.
HQ can accept the following:

- Food Sponsor a meal, gift cards so we can buy fresh produce, bottled water, individually packaged, to-go snack foods (pop-tarts, noodle cups/ramen, granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers, etc.)
- Basic Needs Re-useable water bottles, sunscreen
- Clothing Undershirts (NEW, men + women, all sizes), bras* (all sizes/styles), underwear (NEW, mens+ womens, all sizes/styles), sweatpants (sizes L-XXL)
- Hygiene Deodorant, lip balm, shaving cream, travel size tissues, shower caps, African American hair care products for relaxed and/or natural hair
- Personal 31 Day bus passes, phone chargers (apple +android), backpacks*, headphones (skull candy or similar), hair ties
- HQ Household Food service gloves, liquid dish soap (Dawn or similar), laundry detergent (liquid or powder), paper plates +bowls, trash bags (13 + 8 gallon)

Donations will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning until 8:50 a.m. on Friday morning and presented to HQ during Friday morning’s welcome and announcements. Learn more about HQ.
Let’s Chat Breakout Sessions
Less formal than a breakout session, but more structured than an unconference, Let’s Chat sessions are a chance to discuss important library topics. The topics and moderators have been selected for you, but you get to choose your participation level. Jump in and share your thoughts, opinions and experiences – or sit back and take some great notes about what others are doing in the library community. Moderators will share what they are doing and why and then open the floor for interaction by the audience. Add your two cents and Let’s Chat!

Spend some time learning about the ones that pique your interest and find out how you can implement these great programs, projects and concepts at your own library. This strolling reception will inspire your mind while filling your belly! Light appetizers and beverages available.

Networking. The mere word becomes the antithesis of fun for most people, but it is sometimes a necessity to further your career. Join your colleagues in the ultimate anti-networking lunch. Collaborate, connect and engage with your fellow librarians during this table vs. table trivia challenge. This fun, lively and entertaining lunch will make you forget that you’re networking! Winners take home bragging rights but everyone leaves as a networking champion!
