President's Update - October 13, 2016

The MLA Annual Conference is almost here. There is still time to register if you haven t done so already. What a banner year – A celebration of the 125th Anniversary of MLA at the easy-to-reach Lansing Center. The keynote speakers, Shannon McClintock Miller and Ben Bizzle will inspire us to think more deeply about how to Be the Change and tell our stories creatively. An exciting new addition this year is the Library SOUP fund-raising event (tickets are still available). Lunch keynote speaker, Amy Kaherl will tell us about the successful Detroit SOUP to get us revved up in advance.

Among all of these great events are the sessions where we can update our skills and gain knowledge about best practices in our profession as well as the Solution Center with more than 50 exhibitors where new innovative products and strategies can tickle your brain.

But wait, there's more! If you're looking for pure fun, there are after hours events featuring an MLA Game Night Wednesday and a Local Brews Beer Crawl Thursday. If you're feeling particularly festive, you can even wear your Halloween costume to the Beer Crawl.

If for any reason I haven't made a case for you to join this momentous conference, then perhaps reading about Making the Case to Attend will convince you.

Many thanks go to the Conference Work Group, the MLA staff, the presenters, our sponsors and everyone else who has helped to make this happen. This is an amazing program and I'm honored to play a part in it. Thank you.
