Panel Discussion 1: Internal or External Candidates: The Right Person for the Job
This panel of new library directors will talk about their experiences and provide the pros and cons of hiring from within and being an outside candidate. You want to allow your current team to grow within your company, but when is it better to hire elsewhere? What value should you place on loyalty and trust? Hiring from within provides for institutional knowledge, performance history and career development. However, an outsider’s perspective and new skills may be just what the library needs. What things should be considered when finding the right fit for the job, whether it's sourcing candidates within or outside your business.
Scott Duimstra, Capital Area District Libraries; Jennifer Dean, University of Detroit Mercy; Holly Ward Lamb, Howell Carnegie District Library
