President's Update - February 12, 2015

The old idiom, “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail” might be trite, but there is no arguing its logic. Lack of planning often yields lack luster results, but has any librarian ever said, “I can’t wait to launch this mediocre program. Our patrons won’t be able to care less about it!” Of course not, but without proper planning, they might as well.

Enthusiasm and creativity get our plans off the ground, but lack of experience or knowledge, too little time to devote to the project and tight budgets are only a few of the possible roadblocks to success. Effective project management, an essential skill in today’s workplace, can help keep your plans on track and ultimately lead to greater realization not only for your project, but for your organization as well.

This is why MLA has put together a new workshop filled with practical information about the essentials of project management. Library professionals of all levels will gain the knowledge and tools necessary for successfully initiating, planning and executing projects of various sizes and scopes. I hope you’ll join us at the Novi Public Library on Friday, March 20 for this interactive program. More details can be found on the MLA Event Calendar.

Make it an outstanding day!

Asante
