A library ecosystem is the interconnected network of all types of libraries, library workers, volunteers, and associations that provide and facilitate library services for community members; families; K-20 learners; college and university communities; local, state and federal legislatures and government offices; businesses; nonprofits; and other organizations with specific information needs.

Freedom to Read Legislation Coming in January
With the help of many members, leaders and legislators, MLA helped draft a simple, direct piece of legislation on the Freedom to Read. We know it may not stop every challenge, but we hope it will stop the majority of those who target the books and materials so often at the top of the “most banned books” list.

Updates to MLA Strategic Plan
Since 2019, the MLA Board of Directors has spent time and energy developing a strategic direction for MLA. Each year MLA is dedicated to revisiting it, talking through our challenges and successes to remain relevant as we address the needs of the field.
In July 2021, July 2022, and August 2023, MLA gathered a small group of key stakeholders who reviewed the planning document and made updates that addressed achievements and changes for 2021-2023, 2022-2024, and 2023-2025.
