What’s the best approach to the worst conversations? There is no painless way to handle performance issues and conflict management, but there are ways to help minimize the negative impact on staff and avoid lawsuits. Hear from an employment law attorney and a library HR expert on some of the most successful ways to deal with discord. You’ll also take home a packet of useful resources including step-by-step instructions for some of the toughest HR challenges.

Schedule

Registration & Continental Breakfast

9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Have you ever thought about saying something to an employee then decided, “It’s not worth it”? Why did you decide that? Did you think that saying something would create backlash and drama far worse than the initial transgression? No one likes being mean to someone, especially to an employee. But if you don’t say anything, does it ever get better on its own? No. It usually gets worse. And then you have a more difficult situation to address. In this workshop we will learn a simple and easy process for having difficult conversations with employees, from coaching to discipline and termination. We will also learn some management best practices that help prevent problems and problem employees in the first place. We will also learn about some of the “red flags” for legal liability in the everyday workplace and what to do when you see them. Bring your difficult employees situations and we’ll work out an action plan.
