MLA Receives Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs Operational Support GrantOctober 22, 2019 MLA received wonderful news late last week with the passage of the state budget. The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) announced a series of operational, programmatic and special grant funds totaling close to $10 million for arts and cultural organizations throughout the state. MLA’s operational support application was one of the top-ranked grants in the state earning 97.5 points out of 100 and a $22,500 award/year for the next three years. We also received news that we were awarded a professional development mini-grant for $1,250 to send Amber Sheerin to the ALA Conference in Chicago next June. MLA staff worked extremely quickly to write the grant narrative and prepare supplemental materials by the submission deadline and our hard work paid off. These new resources will be a vital element in expanding our work and driving our advocacy and professional development agenda. Since 1966, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs has recognized the value and importance of a vibrant arts and cultural sector. From historic monuments and museums to traditional practices and contemporary arts, the Council is dedicated to ensuring that every citizen and community in Michigan enjoy the civic, economic and educational benefits of arts and culture. And libraries are not being overlooked! Check out the full list of FY2020 grant recipients by program area. Program areas include Operational, Programmatic, Capital Improvement, Arts in Education, New Leaders, Regional Regranting and Services to the Field. We encourage all of our members to apply for these annual grants as well as the mini-grants that are distributed locally.
