Librarian of Congress Visits Taylor Community Library
Prior to story time, Dr. Hayden talked to the assembled group about the Library of Congress’ collections and about her job interview with President Obama. She read a letter that she received from an eight-year-old asking that children under 16 be allowed in the library. (They soon will be.) By the time she was done speaking, everyone in the room was planning their trip to the Library of Congress. Dr. Hayden spoke about the importance of our work and also took a moment during her remarks to publicly recognize the Michigan Library Association and thanked us for supporting her nomination. She said the letter of support from the association mattered. It was a wonderful recognition and public thank you for MLA. Dr. Hayden is the 14th Librarian of Congress, nominated by President Barack Obama in February 2016. She is the first woman and first African American to lead the national library and has made it a priority to expand educational programming to schools and libraries throughout the country.
