MDHHS Library Over the Counter COVID-19 Testing Program

Over the past few months, many libraries in Michigan have stated their interest in distributing COVID-19 test kits to Michigan citizens if tests were available.

In mid-January, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) began a small pilot project with libraries in select counties to offer free, over-the-counter test kits. Initially, 18 library buildings were selected by MDHHS based on the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI).

Based on conversations with the Michigan Library Association and the Library of Michigan, MDHHS is beginning a process to expand distribution sites, eventually enrolling everyone who is interested. The initial 18 libraries will be re-supplied and additional sites will be added to a 2nd cohort which will also be selected based on high SVI. MDHHS would like to hear from any Michigan public library that is interested in participating (now or in the future as the program expands) in the distribution of over-the-counter test kits before Friday, February 18. Please use the link below to express your interest.

If you are chosen to participate in the 2nd cohort group, you will hear more from MDHHS in the coming weeks. For more information on the program overview and guidelines for participation, click here.
